BIAILAN CAVE: ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9072, otherwise known as the National Caves and Cave Resources Management and Protection Act of 2001, all caves in the country should undergo assessment and evaluation before opening it to various purposes. Cave Assessment and Evaluation, one of the activities done by the CENRO Manay in coordination with BLGU Lambog and Manay Tourism last February 23-24, 2021 at Biailan Cave in Purok Biailan, was also pursuant to the letter request by the late Mayor Antero L Dayanghirang Jr. The Cave Assessment and Evaluation was headed by Lea Renerea Basanez, CDO II of CENRO Manay with their staff, Joseph Arnel Gayta, Protected Area and Wildlife Section PENRO Davao Oriental (Technical and Regional Caving Committee Member), Christian Paul Escarian, former CENRO Manay Geologist and now USEP Geology Faculty, Merlita Calungsod, Dept. Mgt. Officer and Yolanda Bueno, DMO II both from PENRO Davao Oriental respectively. It was also assisted by Julyeleven Gumop-as of GIYA Manay and Jan Michael Belena from Manay Tourism. Barangay Lambog headed by Punong Barangay Agustino Lanus with his council and staff glady assisted the team for their assessment. It was noted that last year, Mabaho Cave of Barangay Central was then assessed and evaluated as Class II cave which was suitable to scientific and experienced cavers and currently on its way of crafting the Mabaho Cave Management Plan. Indeed, the Municipality of Manay is exploring possibilities for a new tourism offering... QR Code Caravan in Manay

Dozen of Walk-in Applicants flocked the Municipal Gym of Manay for the QR Code Caravan. The said caravan is headed by the team from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Jason Bendulo and assisted by Merlyn Latiban, QR Code Focal, Child Development Workers and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office with their headed by Minda C. Alonzo, PNP Manay headed by PCM Butch Kevin Rapiz, Municipal Health Office headed by Dr. Abelardo Bantayan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Cesar Camingue, Department of Interior and Local Government headed by Eric Ryan Masagnay, Manay Tourism, Local Economic Investment and Promotions Office, Municipal Admin Office headed by Jan Mae D. Llavore and LGU Manay headed by Mayor Antero L. Dayanghirang Jr. The QR Codes are now essential especially on visiting establishments in the municipality and within the province in order to track down suspected Person Under Monitoring or PUM. Minimum health protocols are observed on the duration of the caravan.
