Pursuant to the Memorandum dated April 8, 2022 from the Provincial Tourism Office of Davao Oriental regarding the MLGUs preparation for the Lenten Week and the Summer Vacation cun Oplan SumVac and the Memorandum dated April 11, 2022 from the Department of Tourism Region XI regarding the observance of the Health and Safety Protocols and the Minimum Health Standards during the Holy Week. The Local Government Unit of Manay thru the Manay Tourism headed by Tourism Officer Jan Michael Belena, Manay MDRRMO / MENRO headed by Cesar L. Camingue and the PNP Manay headed by PMaj Meliton J. Sango conducted the Lenten Week inspection to various resorts and accommodation establishments. The said visit is done yearly for the preparation for the OPLAN SUMVAC or Summer Vacation. The said Oplan is made in order to ready the municipalities of the Davao Oriental for the influx of visitors during the Lenten Week and the Summer Vacation (months of April and May). With this, the PNP Manay will continue its assistance in various areas while Manay Tourism will have its Tourist Assistance and Information Desk at the Manay Terminal from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. MDRRMO Manay and MHO Manay will also be in alert. MENRO Manay headed by Cesar L. Camingue also conducted the inspection for the Solid Waste Management not only for the resorts but also for areas in Manay to ensure cleanliness all throughout the lent and the summer months. Pursuant to the recommendations of the validation team last August 2021, the LGU Manay thru the Manay Tourism held the 1st Basic Tour Guide and Birdwatching Guide Workshop in Sitio Limentuog, Barangay Taocanga in Manay. Birdwatching as defined is the practice of observing birds in their natural environment as a hobby. A big potential of Birdwatching in Sitio Limentuog due to the protection and conservation being done by the community on their remaining forest area of the Mt. Kampalili range. It was noted that people of the sitio protected the nest sites of the Philippine eagle. The workshop features potential birdwatch guides and porters that will become the tourism workforce of the sitio as soon as the place will be opened for birdwatchers. It also features the lessons being given by Birdwatchers Martin Pineda, Nicky Icarangal of Philippine Birding Adventures, Eden Licayan of PIO and Biologist Rowell Taraya of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. Also present are Manay Community Tour Guides Julyeleven Gumop-as and Roen Limentang. The training was also attended by a former rebel returnee. During the evaluation, he thanked the LGU Manay and the trainors of the activity and promised to practice the learnings that he got in the training. It was also noted the the validation was made as the barangay was identified under the ELCAC Program of the EO 70. Road access is one of the challenges during the training cum validation of the sites. The trainors also noted the variety of exotic mid and high elevation specie of birds that can be seen in the area. Sitio Limentuog is considered to be the transition area of elevation which range from upper dipterocarp to lower montane forest as observed in the specie of trees found in these areas. Various potential birdwatching sites were pointed ranging from a 15-minute walk to an hour of hike depending on the kinds of birds birdwatchers wanted to observe.
