Birdwatching, also known as birding, is the practice of observing birds for pleasure purposes or for a study. A birdwatcher may observe using the naked eye, visual improvement devices such as binoculars or telescopes, auditory cues from bird calls, public webcams, or smart bird feeder cameras. Indeed, our Birdwatching activity in Manay River last Saturday May 24, 2025 was a success! It is in line with the celebration of the National Heritage Month 2025 in which Manay river, Mabaho cave and all the wildlife in the are considered as cultural and natural heritages of the municipality. Notable birds seen and heard are the Southern silvery kingfisher, Tarictic hornbil (heard and seen in flight), Stork-billed kingfisher, Philippine bulbul and the Pygmy woodpecker. The team comprised of Sir Keanu Sitjar and Mykha Pandalili also observed a possible Tarsier population along the Manay River due to the territorial smell in the area. Long-tailed macaques were also seen on the branches of the trees. Celestine Mambulao also observed fresh water shrimps (Uwabang) that are indicators of an undisturbed wildlife in the area. As one of the priority areas of Mayor Jon Marco Dayanghirang, the preservation and protection of these wildlife are significant as these are indicators on well preserved our environment in Manay. However, we still encourage our co-Manayans to observe cleanliness especially those who frequently visiting the rivers in Manay.
